Accredited Petroleum Accountant Program (APA®)

The APA® is a knowledge-based testing program designed by the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies to provide an independent source of recognition of achievement for petroleum industry accountants.

The exam is divided into eight modules: Operations, Law, Financial Reporting, Revenue, Joint Interest, Tax, Managerial, and Auditing. All candidates must complete the first three modules, Operations, Law, and Financial Reporting, and one more of the other tests to qualify for limited accreditation. To qualify as a fully Accredited Petroleum Accountant the candidate must pass all eight of the tests.

The APA® exams are administered by computer-based testing (CBT) with enhanced convenience. COPAS has contracted with ExamSoft® to conduct the examination program. The test program may be downloaded to an individual's PC or notebook computer in advance. A proctor and code are required for the test to commence.

Exams will be administered at all National Conferences, the national office in Lakewood, CO, and by arrangement at any local member society meeting, or at a sponsored test site. Click here for current testing sites.
